]]>Jordan Pond and "The Bubbles" mountains in Acadia National Park are about one of the most popular locations to shoot, I often like to avoid the more common post card images but occasionally I have to revisit them to make my own interpretation. There's a reason why a place as beautiful as this is so popular after all.

]]>A summer sunrise from a small finger cove off Otter Cliffs in Acadia National Park. Morning light is challenging to come by in Acadia in the summer because it requires getting out of bed at 03:30 at the latest to get in position for sunrise colors. All too often great plans of beautiful light are squelched by the ever pervasive "marine layer", a fog bank that blocks the light from getting through up to about a thousand feet. It takes commitment and determination to get up the next day and the next until the law of averages yields a rewarding morning like this one.

]]>Gulf Hagus near Brownville Junction in Maine is sometimes referred to as "the Grand Canyon of the East", it is a gorge that contains many beautiful little waterfalls and shares part of the Appalachian Trail just before getting to Katahdin. This is Screw Auger Falls named for the distinctive sculpted shapes due to the incessant flow of the river.

]]>A minimalistic extract that was provided to me when I was least expecting this. I arrived at this pond on Mount Desert Island in Somesville with the intention of shooting morning light silhouetting a small island in the middle of the pond, however the scene was just kind of flat and mundane that morning so as I was lamenting that a leaf fell off a tree to my right and slowly began coursing in front of me carried by a slow current. My first reaction was to change lenses to make a different kind of composition but I realized I wouldn't have time and instead composed this scene where suddenly the leaf was floating on a layer of clouds and water reflected together. I couldn't have planned it better.

]]>A small stream in Acadia National Park near Bar Harbor Maine ablaze with autumn colors. Every fall hundreds of photographers come to Acadia to photograph the foliage and dozens of pros come to lead workshops to give the participants gorgeous shots of New England autumn, this is more of a hidden spot though, much more hard to come by and resembles more of the intimate nature of Acadia. In the end though, at that time of year, no matter where you look there is a beautiful picture of fall to be had.

]]>The New England coastline, in Maine particularly, is a jagged toe-stubbing seaweed-slipping jumble of slippery boulders, because of which there are infinite microcosms to explore as a photographer. On this summer afternoon I went shooting coastline in Acadia National Park, and deliberately went to places that I wouldn't think would be interesting only to find this scene with this wonderfully charactered piece of driftwood waiting to be imaged.

]]>The Cape Cod National Seashore on a stormy afternoon in November. I found this flock of seagulls huddling out a storm that had particularly strong winds blowing sidelong down this beach in Provincetown, I realized the image but struggled to make it in the blowing sand and shaking winds, in the end this has become one of my more favorite pictures.

There are always new features that reveal themselves here and so many different dynamic opportunities to explore that it is endlessly fascinating as a subject.
